Water / Aging and yoga

Did you know that 70% of our adult body is water? Our bones, organs, cells, tissues, molecules all contain water.  Through this water: nutrition, important information signals, toxins flow in and out of our body.

Because our body can’t hold this much water, it transforms into gel. This gel (fascia, connective tissue) gives us shape, it is a communication network that runs through every part of our body. In Chinese Medicine it is called meridian system where our energy (chi) runs.

By aging we produce less cells that contain and attract water. An old person’s body only contains 50 % water!

If you do not move and do not hydrate yourself, you dry up faster: you get stiffness, toxins and waste products remain in your body.

By doing yoga: twisting, stretching, expanding,contracting we teach our body to keep on producing cells - molecules that keep the water there.

 

Water

- a vital nutrient to the life of every cell,

- regulates our internal temperature (sweat, respiration),

- carbohydrates and proteins are metabolized and transported by water into the bloodstream,

- assists flushing waste,

- lubricates joints,

- forms saliva for digestion,

- helps oxygen delivery  allover the body,

- water is needed by the brain to manufacture hormones and neurotransmitters.
