In Chinese medicine Summer is associated with the fire element, the heart and triple heater meridian.
This season’s message: Open your heart, Listen to your heart, Follow your heart! Be kind to yourself and others!
With longer days and more sunlight, we are spending most of our days in active mode. Summer is the time to say yes to invitations, to travel and explore and infuse as much fun as possible. Play, sing, dance, walk in nature, swim, get engaged in creative projects.
Summer is linked to the happiness hormone dopamine. If you get morning sunlight it triggers the dopamine release in the body, and you will feel motivated, energetic, and enthusiastic throughout the day. It only takes 5-10 minutes for the light to have a positive effect on the body. As you will be more active in this season make sure you get a good night sleep, even if it is less than in winter its quality shall be good. Balance is the key.
Summer foods: take as many natural antioxidants as possible: strawberries, blueberries, blackcurrant, beetroot, broccoli, peppers, all kinds of melons, pineapple, papaya.
Yoga postures: Gentle heart and lung opening asanas, along with cooling, restorative postures like viparita karani – legs up on the wall (great after long active day)
